She's A Mod - Ray Columbus and the Invaders 


Forming in Christchurch in 1961, the band were originally known as 
Ray and The Drifters. In the early days their repertoire largely 
comprised instrumentals with Columbus providing the vocals on some 
songs when required. They appeared on a local T.V. production 
'Club Columbus' which was shown nationally. This prompted an invitation 
to appear in Auckland and at this point with Wally Scott replacing 
Brian Ringrose (who was still at school) on lead guitar they decided 
to change their monicker to Ray Columbus and The Invaders.

The dual guitar work of David Russell and Wally Scott was distinctive 
on several of their records and Jansen, a local instrument manufacturer
also named a series of Jansen Invader electric guitars after them! 

Peter Ward later formed his own band (Pete Ward and The Prophets) back 
in Christchurch and opened a music studio. Puni Soloman lives there 
too but is no longer active in the music business. Dave Russell played 
in a number of Auckland bands before moving permanently to Australia.
Jimmy Hill moved there too. Wally Scott sadly died of cancer in 1980.
 

Kristian and Columbus are still active in the music scene. 
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of She's A Mod 
they reformed the band for a farewell tour in 1994, along with 
Dave Russell, Brian Ringrose and Jimmy Hill.
